Default Mulligans: What is your philosophy

I tend to take mulligans on drives if I hit the first tree or grip lock. On the green if i miss something i think i should have made i will pick up the disc at my feet and toss that.

Depends what your goal is. If you're practicing or playing casually, by all means go ahead. It doesn't you any favors if you're trying to prepare for a tournament or league round, however.

Occasionally (maybe 1 out of 5 rounds) we'll agree that a mulligan on the first throw of hole 1 is allowable. Otherwise only if it's a special event - a lot of times for a charity event/ice bowl type thing you can buy a mulligan for $1 or something. And there is mulligan leagues/tournaments that allow one per hole, but fairly few and far between.

During casual play, if I'm by myself not keeping score or a very casual round with friends, I likely will do as you describe - pick up the disc at my feet and toss it in frustration or whatever, or throw a second drive if my first one sucked. And if there is any "score" to be discussed, I would only ever count the first throw and the "mulligan" was for fun/frustration or whatever..

The only time I'll take a mulligan is on the first hole of a casual round, and only if I didn't get to warm up. I'm prone to pull drives hard right if I don't warm up.

Never.

Well, almost never. When we've built a new hole, and I'm playing it for the first few times, and I shank the drive....because at that point, I'm more interested in how the hole plays than how I can get out of trouble. I figure I'll have plenty of chances to play those bad drives, on that hole, in the future.

On the other hand, playing casually, I'll take plenty of revenge throws---a second throw, just to prove I could have hit the fairway, or the putt, with my first. But I'm still playing the first.

The only time I will play Mulligans is when I am in Utah!

Honestly it's a bit wide open for many players' tastes, and also the design is clearly intended for bigger arms than mine. However, still fun to throw some bomber shots and rollers and whatever else seems fun. I'd highly recommend cart rental, especially if it's too warm outside.

I take mulligans all the time.....it's called field work.

I encourage mulligans from other players though....with appropriate penalty strokes.

I play casual rounds like I play tournament rounds. Learning to deal with the occasional poor throw and developing a recovery game are vital competition skills.

If I mess up the first drive, I will take a "mulligan" on hole 1. But I don't consider it a mulligan - I am just starting the round over. Like a video game when you are going for a perfect score, so you have to hit reset after any little mistake.

After that, I never do. I mean, I throw second shots all the time (which is usually how I lose plastic), but I never use or count them.
