Default building a marksman type basket from a costco basket

I have been checking out the newer marksman type baskets lately.
But can't bring my self to spend the money.

I have a few old Costco baskets around, that were given to me because they were broken.

So I decided to weld the base back on, and then narrow up the top some.

It originally had the chains hanging at about 21" wide across the top.

I measured a couple other baskets and that was about average.

I cut off the chain mounts at the ring, then welded a couple back on a couple inches in from the ring on top.
This made the chains hang at about 17"

I may have to make it even smaller

...you just use the inner ring.

why not reinforce a legit sized basket for use vs chop one up like that...?! I have mine set up with S links and just removed the chains lol.. are you kidding with this?

here is the ****ty picture in storage: going on 4 years old and holding up fine..

(that's an orange towel zip tied to the pole to keep it quiet)

inner extra S or threaded C links purchased also can just be used for 2nd inner set of chains which make these catch great!

I put a towel around my center pole to keep quiet in the house too . I wrapped it in brightly colored neon duct tape though.... and I thought I was being original

ive noticed its the damn bottom ring which really, RINGS! so I tucked the towel through the bottom of the chain ring/cage and really seemed to dull the sound when zip tied.

I have a few of these old Costco baskets around, that are broken.
Friends give them to me because the are busted, and they know I can fix them, and put them to good use.
So I don't mind cutting one up.

It will still be good when I am done with it.

I want to make sure it still catches really well, when I am done screwing with it.

I cut off the 2 hooks I had tested with, then moved them in about an inch.

I ended up with approx 15" at the chains.

It doesn't look a lot smaller when compared to my discatcher sport, but you can tell the difference.

But when sitting by itself, it looks pretty narrow.

Best part is that it still catches fairly well.

I don't know why, but I'm in love with the Meow sticker.

Its a very good reminder for me to "man up, and don't be such a *****" when putting.
