Hearing a barrage of discs loudly hitting trees at an unknown distance behind you is very distracting. No, it's not something you should have to learn to play through.

Barrage is a bit of hyperbole, yeah? That sounds more like thowing ON a group, not throwing behind them once they're well clear of your distance potential. (In a C-tier on a course in LA, nearby fairways create constant distractions, but even they are rarely synced up with one of the 10 or so throws averaged per card per hole.)

Well heck. All this time I’ve been yelling fore on my errant shots. Should I be shouting four instead?

I definitely do. Sometimes I'm proud of my score.

I've learned to yell DUCK or Look Out!

In ball golf, fore is easy to use and understand as the people on the course are golfers. Rarely are there non-golfers on the course.

In disc golf, there are frequently non-golfers around (public parks, etc) and they don't always know what fore means (really!). I have yelled 'fore' and had the person look around to see who was yelling. I yell duck and people duck.

You’d laugh if you knew how much that just messed with my OCD.

Pretty sure I twitched a little when I read it.
