Default Playing Catch While Waiting to Tee Off

So...

Played in a tourney today behind a very slow group and one of the guys on my card mentioned playing catch while waiting. So we started playing catch but it occurred to me post round that it might be a no-no. What say DGCR?

809.03 Practice Throw
Last updated: Sunday, December 31, 2017 - 18:17

A. A practice throw is any throw that is not made as a competitive attempt to change the lie, except for a throw that is made either to set aside an unused disc or to return a disc to a player and that travels less than five meters in the air. A drop is not a practice throw. Practice throws are disregarded.

B. A player receives one penalty throw for making a practice throw.
Looks to me like a clear violation. Whether it should be is a different question...

you have 7,000 posts on a disc golf forum and don't know the answer to this question and even worse you are asking people their opinion about this when this is clearly not opinion based...

why wouldn't you just look it up in the rule book.......?

It’s a stupid rule if it prohibits playing catch

It CLEARLY prohibits playing catch

It is a stupid rule

FFS, in ball golf you can take forty-seven practice putts after you hole out as long as you aren’t holding up pace of play. Nobody ever does it because it always holds up play (and it’s a bit of a bad look), but you could in theory

I get why the rule is so strictly/narrowly worded, but common sense has to prevail at some point

If you're playing catch with Zephyr, it's fine by me. But they're are a bunch of rule Nazis that may say other wise.

Psssst, can I play?

Playing catch should be allowed, because players who have to wait in long back ups are at a disadvantage to those who don't get backed up, as the muscle memory and repetition for sure helps.

However, it is against the rules.

The broad question is whether the tourney you were playing was PDGA sanctioned.

If so, then what object were you using to play catch?

We need details to find devils.

Thanks all! (except BlazedOrangeHat who was being a very salty bear, sorry someone peed in your cornflakes).

It was a D Rattler and a C Tier tourney...so definitely not kosher according to the rule.

This particular group was backing up at least half the field...when we got done the other half of the field had been finished for 45 minutes or so...it was a long round in 90+ heat.

However, we were standing around 5 meters apart...so you could say we just kept "returning" the disc to each other?
