Unless I'm imagining this scenario incorrect.....how, without looking, do you know someone is stepping up to putt? Wouldn't you have had to have some visual?

To me, the best way to handle this scenario is,
after retrieving your disc from the basket is to walk towards the player that is going to putt next. By walking toward them you will easily be out of their view quickest, after you pass them you can turn to watch them putt, but be out of their line of sight.

Added bonus, head games, you just made a putt longer then theirs and you can look them in the eye challenging them to now make theirs, all without saying a word.
