where did 30 seconds come from?

It's called the Nikko rule. Players got tired of waiting for Nikko to putt so a rule was made to make it 30 seconds. Unfortunately it did nothing to speed up Nikko.

According to the old timers I know, the bolded is the reason why disc golf has this rule. Apparently there was a top player back then that would wait for a favorable wind to throw, no matter how long it took.

I've heard that, as an old hippie sport, it's related to "never trust anyone over 30."
