Great points! I gave both courses 5s. My 5 for Idlewild from 10 years ago still remains. It's actually gotten better since 2009 and remains my favorite course. My 5 for HH was more of an emotional rating than rational (it's probably a rational 4.5 but it got the .5 bump from me due to the experience). For anyone who is a stickler for a course getting the details right, I can easily imagine a legit 3.5 review. I love the feel of the place despite the lacking tees, signs, and baskets. I no longer get to regularly travel in east TN and I really, really miss getting out to HH. To its detriment, I think HH requires at least a few plays to fully embrace it. Panther Creek down the way from HH probably checks more boxes on what a great course is but I still yearn to play HH more.

I enjoyed Harmon a bit more than Moraine or Deer Lakes...but that's a definitely debatable. If any player leaves those courses thinking they aren't excellent at the very least.... give your discs to someone who appreciates this game.

Harmon Hills was just bumped out of my personal top ten (now 11th) 2 weeks ago, by a course called Wilderness. It has some similarities to Harmon Hills, but it’s more of a cross between the IDGC courses Warner and Jackson. 9 reviews in its rocking a 4.67. I think it has potential to make the DGCR top 25 if it ever hits 21 reviews. Anyone who loves 8,000 foot fully wooded courses over undulating terrain will love it.

I too, believe this course has potential to be even higher. I project it as one of the top 2 or 3 in WI when it gets beat in and all work is completed. Im sure it may take some time to beat in all the raspberry shrubs and other thorny stuff but when it is, its gonna be pristine.

I am so glad i wore 18 inch tall rubber boots at wilderness. The tasty raspberrys were a pro for my dietary well-being.

That looks like an awesome course, but unless the pictures are deceivingly unflattering, Wilderness is no Harmon Hills...not even close.

Wilderness has dual pins permanently in place and 2 tees; so, four courses in one! Camping there is very "private like" (I was part of the very first group to ever camp there). You can buy cooked food as well as convenience items; 200 feet from camp area and hole one tee.

My .02
Idlewild
Harmon Hills
Wilderness

(...in that order; but, they are all three, MOST EXCELLENT!...I was able to meet the original builder/owner of Harmon in his kitchen, so, probably gets a few "in the know", bonus love points, from me...with that said, I have spent some time with the Wilderness designer as well...)

Same old story;amenities rule the day in Minnesota and Wisco. I'm not buying it. But i do love those concrete pads...

Something occurred to me the other day; and that is, why is the tee pad rating always geared to the pad surface, rather than the visual from the pad ?

I wish I had taken more pictures. IMO Wilderness is every bit as beautiful Harmon.
