I like to mix a bit of water to make it a bit easier to work with.
It is like a milk shake consistency. It will hold onto the sides of my container but slowly want to slide out.
I use a countertop kitchen aid mixer. It gives me great results.

I haven't noticed anything about what angle I have to lay the disc.
I usually just put it flat onto the bed.
I do meticulously go over and flatten things out numerous times before I am ready to lay any dye on it.

Something I have noticed, if you accidentally drip water onto your bed it will create a crater.
