I played my first 36 oles yesterday and looking at the DGCR I see the average for that course is 51.82.
BUT - that is the average of people on DGCR and not your average Joe. Are there any numbers out there for "normal" disc golfers? Not obsessed fanatics that read forums :-) If I linked up o na course with NON-DGCR players, how good are they? BTW - I LOVE that this site has these stats as it is basically a controlled group. You can check discgolfscene.com. Although, again, you'll be seeing mostly the average scores of those who take the sport a little more seriously than most.
The only other option I can think of is to try to dig up results from tournaments held at the course. |

Look at the SSE (Scratch Scoring Estimate) - DGCR's estimate at what a 1000-rated "scratch" golfer would score on the course. This can be found on the front page of each course. (my guestimate is that the average DGCRer is around a 830 rated player)
For normal length courses (5000'-5600') basically add 1 throw per hole and you will get what a normal DGCR'er scores. Add around another 0.5 throws per hole and you will be in the range that purely recreational players will score. So add 27 to SSE to a normal 18 hole course and you should have a OK score for a recreational player. (my guestimate is that the average recreational player is around a 730 rated player) -------------------- That said, for any given course, the DGCR average score recorded is totally dependant on the small sample of players who have entered their score. What course/s did you play? |

Crystal Lake Park Beaver Dam WI 42.1 RED and 45.6 Blue 4680'
I was just curious. Reason is I ball golf in a league so I'm always surrounded by golfers that know how to golf. Six years ago we build a house on a ball golf course and now I see how bad non-league ball golfers are. This got me thinking about how good NON-DGCR golfers were since I don't have a lot of experience with golfing with other disc golfers yet (I wanted to make sure I would not hurt someone or make a total fool of myself). What I saw when I was playing yesterday were people throwing all over the place or people driving long and wild! |

I assume this is the course- http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=1170
The average will be a little off because the course has a long and short tees. Having never played this course I don't know how hard it is but it is pretty short. I would guess that you could have random people who don't play a lot throw 60 or less from the shorts and under 65 from the longs. From a quick look at tournament results from the shorts a 52=821 rated. So that 51.82 average is about an 824 rated round(and around a 912 from the longs.)* *Numbers from estimated from http://www.pdga.com/tournament_results/89744 |

I've played Crystal Lake a few times, its a good place to start, short and easy-ish, hard to lose a disc (unless you go in the water and don't want to swim) If you don't mind a short drive and a daily fee to play, check out Vallarta-Ast in Token Creek. Im alil biased since i learned to play there, but i think it's one of the best in the state to learn the game at.

The people on this website are average joes. If you have one really good player in your area that plays that course and has entered a lot of rounds, its going to pull the average down. Start entering your own scores and the average will go up.

Vallarta-Ast in Token Creek seems freakishly long for me at the moment!
I think my next NEW course will be Firemans Park in Waterloo and then Hiestand Park in Madison - where do I pay in Madison anyway ???? Crystal Lake is the closest to my house at the moment at 16 miles Scarpfish - or somebody - I was just looking to see how I entered scores but could not find the magic button. am I missing it?? |

I also know some very good non-DGCR golfers. They throw the distances many here claim to throw and could probably give some touring pros a run for the money.
