I'm intrigued by the opto X fuse, and was originally very excited for it.

But now I'm thinking... why would I want a fuse to be any more stable than a good, max weight opto? Especially if it has any negative impact on the glide or ease of throwing?

Opto X Fuse acquired. Same Fuse glide, same Fuse (lack of) LSS, slight but noticeable increase in HSS. Profile is indistinguishable from regular Fuse, it's just stiffer plastic. The Opto X will actually hold an anhyzer and pan out if given enough height. I had one throw where I thought I had burned it but it actually fought out of it long enough to park the hole. The regular Fuse requires absolute finesse to hyzer flip and stay straight but the Opto X goes straight with much less quibble. It's just an easier to throw, less touchy Fuse which is indeed pretty awesome.

Nice. The one thing I didn't like about the Fuse was that it was that it was a little too touchy on full or near full power anhyzers. It would never pan out and you risked it landing on edge and rolling or just going too far right in general (RHBH). I use the Buzzz for these shots or power down a fairway driver. Now it's sounding like this Opto X Fuse is gonna fall between an Opto/GL Fuse and a Buzzz. I may have to give it a try, but I carry both a Z Buzzz and GL Fuse so not sure if there's really room in my bag for it.

It's still gonna be a lot closer to a regular Fuse than a Buzzz in stability but it's a lot more capable of holding an anhyzer like a Comet is compared to something definitively understable. I'm not sure I'll bag both Fuses b/c the Opto X will probably overlap the Opto eventually but the latter is safe for now b/c I throw a lot of turnovers and a quite flippy mid is a staple in my bag.

Picked up and an older stamped 171 g Opto Fuse earlier this weekend as a quick fix to replace a Z Comet I'd lost. Really impressed, it's maybe a tick more stable (even at 171 g vs. 175+ g Z Comets) with comparable glide. It holds hyzers surprisingly well without flipping, turns over really smooth and then just cruises when ripped with a bit of hyzer.

Are current run Optos comparable to an older one like this?

Yeah. Just get heavy, domey optos and they should fit the bill. I have a stack of new and old runs, as long as they are heavy and have some dome they fly like any good fuse in my experience. Pretty darn consistent mold if you get the same plastic and weights.

Just avoid the rare, board flatties, imo. They have no stability and fly really erratically. I have a flat, early run fuse and it's honestly... not like a fuse.

In other news, I have been working out some Opto-X fuses. I like it so far. Just a tick more hss, pretty much the same lss.

Needing a few midranges to fit in with my putters and fairway drivers, I grabbed an Orange colored Opto Fuse last year. It did not look like the usual translucent color of Opto.
The 170g weight confirms it's not Opto Air. Too early for Opto X. It's a laser pointer if not over thrown. Long and straight.

Browsing the store today, I found an Opto Fuse that was the expected translucent color.
I haven't thrown it yet. It has a touch more dome than the first disc.
