Haven't heard why the delay for 2016 bids but maybe they will be discussed at the Fall Summit in September. There was some discussion going the other direction from having a Pro-Am again (unlikely) where only the Open Men and Women might be at one Worlds venue and there would be other Worlds to cover the other divisions. Just discussion though. Graham has quite a few interested Convention Bureaus trying to find out if they have the courses and experienced people in their area to submit a bid.

I spoke to Andrew and Michael at the PDGA in June about this because we have an interest in putting in a bid for Worlds. He said the bid packets would be sent out to interested parties in the next few months and a front page article would be posted on the PDGA site regarding this. Michael also said he would email me as soon as its ready. Don't know if it will go out in time for a decision this Fall, considering it takes time to put a bid together.

I can only assume they are making somewhat substantial changes to the bid requirements again. They released new Worlds bid documents in April 2012 when they first opened up for bids for 2013, 2014 and 2015. Bids for 2013 were due May 31st that year (I *think* Emporia had already been in discussions with them and Lemon Lake had a handshake agreement to be able to host on short notice). The '14/'15 bids were due Aug 31st, 2012, so you had a little over three months to prepare a package for tournaments two and three years out. They awarded all but the '15 Am Worlds and Selinske US Masters at the Fall Summit in Sept 2012. New bid announcements for those two went out on Halloween 2012, and bids were originally due in January 2013, but pushed back to March. They awarded the events at the Spring Summit in May 2013, more than two years in advance of the events themselves.
We've heard that the new bids for 2016 (and beyond?) were coming out "soon" multiple times since then. Here we are in mid-August 2014, so even if the bids come out today, we're already behind schedule compared to the process that resulted in this year's Worlds in MN and OR, and way behind schedule compared to the 2015 awards to PA and MI. Best case scenario is that potential 2016 hosts would have a few months to prepare a bid and find out in late Fall / early Winter if they are hosting the events 18-21 months later. |

I agree, does the Chicago area have the courses to pull it off?

I wasn't talking about Chicago but I do believe the Joliet Area does have enough to pull off an Am Worlds. I doubt that's ever going to happen. Good luck Nate!

With Highland, West Park, Channahon, Mokena, Lockport, New Lockport, & Manhattan that's a pretty good mix. Some work would definitely be made but 18 hole layouts at West & Mokena could be awesome. Last edited by #19325; 08-17-2014 at 04:54 PM. |
