Nice post, JPM. Last couple months I've been trying to incorporate what I believe is the same thing.
Basically a brace that feels like you are catching yourself but that you would be able to push back on in order to change directions. ![]() Sort of like how Rhatton did in this old video. (OK I want to try the time stamped embed): Sw's posted this Barry Sanders video many times and it's what actually first made the idea click (along with understanding the spine change that SW shows with pool cue). Barry shows it perfectly. He's planting one way while already thinking of/going the other (I think you have to actually go to youtube to view it due to viewing rights): https://youtu.be/UD_y4HyltiU Or like if you were sking on moguls, you wouldn't just brace into first mogul and call it good. You have to be ready for the next, basically already shifting towards the next mogul on your left,e.g., if you don't want to die, lol. I don't know, I'm still figuring it out and sometimes I wonder if I'm overdoing with the push back part when I watch the pros but is this push back transfers energy into the upper body quite well and really slings the disc forward. I suspect jumping back and forth like Paige in the gif or emulating Barry is helpful to learn the feel then maybe as the habit gets in grained you could just focus on catching yourself and driving back with the outside of leg... Does the "feel" sound right? This video where he talks about the pistons, similar instruction to golf videos above. Piston, femur pushes back: Sponsored Links

Hey Deyo. It’s actually funny you mention the overdoing and the word “push”. Pushing is what got me in trouble. My brain interprets push as an active movement. Where the brace in other sports to me feels more like your front leg being like a mighty oak tree planted into the ground. It feels more like it’s resisting, rather than pushing. But that’s the problem with language. Everyone interprets stuff differently. We’ll what happens once I practice the concept more often. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
