I'm all for whatever measures the experts are for.

But I gotta say, Dane County's latest one just doesn't make sense.

All indoor gatherings of ANY size are banned.

EXCEPT:
Bars and restaurants may continue at 25% capacity
Churches can offer indoor services
Schools are still open for in person

It's bad enough to ban all indoor gathering, and limit outdoor to 10, but whatever, 30 people can sit inside this bar, maskless, yammering and drinking, that's cool.

They are essentially doing it to tell people "DONT HAVE A THANKSGIVING PARTY".

I think an aggressive public messaging campaign would be better than a mandate most people here scoff at.

I am really surprised that the schools in your county are still open for in school sessions. But yeah those other measures you talked about don't make sense.

Yup. 2 people who each live alone...by the this order, they are not allowed to visit in each other's home, even with masks. That's fine.

BUT....those 2 people can still go to the same bar, sit at the same table, without masks, and talk all night.

Indoor gatherings of any people who do not live together are prohibited. Outdoor mass gatherings are limited to 10 people who do not live together, with physical distancing. The previous limit for gatherings was 10 indoors and 25 outdoors, with physical distancing.

A lot about all of this is confusing and doesn't make sense.

What I see here is an attempt at helping save lives while doing their best to help save businesses also.

I agree it doesn't make sense but I would still follow the guidelines. But I don't do bars or eat out much any more, so that makes it much easier for me.

It seems that this is exactly what many are calling for. Keep business open.

I'm totes fine with the order, I just dont think it will help much. People here haven't followed those yet, they won't start now.

What I'd like to see is more focus on public messaging. TV and radio ads telling people to wear masks and stay home, billboards, posters, etc.

That shoulda started like 9 months ago.

Lockdowns, closures, restrictions should all be focused on this goal. Currently, the levels of restrictions are not heading down the accomplishment of this goal. Waiting until a collapse of the healthcare system to happen is not advisable. This is why you find me on the side of closures, despite the hardships they create.

Healthcare capacity is critical. Of all the stats to follow (#cases, positivity rates, etc...), the number of hospital beds is the number I put the most weight on.

I seen that order too. I live up in Dunn County, and my wife works at the Mayo Clinic in Eau Claire County. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more of those mandates issued throughout the state.

However....

These "mandates" will never be followed because they can't be enforced. Idiots haven't stopped being idiots yet, that certainly won't stop them. Therefore, they really aren't going to be effective. What are they gonna do, raid a Thanksgiving dinner and fine everyone? I doubt it.

Not to mention, the exceptions about the bars and restaurants are beyond stupid. At least with face to face schooling, they have strict protocols they are following to mitigate risk the best they can. Bars sure af aren't doing anything like that.

There was a letter sent home with my son the other day saying that with all the positive cases in the district, they cannot trace any of them to transmission within the school. Every case this far can be traced to infection outside of school. Kind of a case study for the effectiveness of masks and distancing if you ask me.
