For me, the best combos in an area within an hour drive that I've played are...

Moraine, Deer Lakes, North Boundary, Big Beaver near Pittsburgh...

Brewster Ridge, Fox Run, Black Falls in Vermont....

501, Maple Hill, Borderland in Massachusetts...

Pineland Farms, Sabattus, Bittersweet Ridge in Maine...
Oh man. This past year I took a 10 day trip with my favorite people to frolf with, playing almost all those courses. Such a great trip. Pittsburgh to Maine and back with VT along the way. Moments like those really put life back into perspective.

Trying not to seem homerish (it's about 3 hrs from me), but I thoroughly enjoyed Beast.
FWIW - I think it's better than Goliath, which I'd give a 3.75.

I can agree to disagree on Beast. I like it more than Canyons, but not by a ton.
Both Canyons and Beast are excellent courses. I've got at least 10x as many rounds at Canyons as I have at Beast (3 spread over at least as many years), so maybe that has something to do with it. Some of my frustrations with Beast, such as a sometimes confusing layout and long walks to spot baskets, would be minimized with repeated play.

I need to get back up to the Ludington area. Still haven't played Leviathan.

The only ones we didn't play on that list were Big Beaver, Black Falls and Borderland (which I've played a couple times before). Man, that was an epic freaking trip.

Also, I guess I just love Canyons more than most of you...I give it a solid 4.5. I like it a decent amount more than Fairfield.
Also, I think it's tough to give it a real review if you played mostly shorts.

I mean, I really enjoy a lot of the shots at canyons. The couple of holes in the more parky area of the course detract a bit for me. Hell we went back to play it instead of bagging more courses. That says a lot.
