I've used "par 3" for every hole on every course I've played.....ever. And guess what... everyone's score is easy to understand, everyone easily knows where they're "at" towards the end of the round. Even the peeps with us not playing easily understands if someone is winning or losing. Discgolf blew their chance to be different years ago.. the game should have stabilized "par 3" from the start imop.

"All-par-3" isn't really a "par"---it's a scorekeeping shorthand. It works well enough for most uses, and most courses.

Certainly, on a given course, and particularly in a given group playing together, any system works.

But if I pass you in a tournament on our local course and we both have the same score (relative to 3, or total strokes), but you've played the brutal last 5 holes and I haven't, our scores aren't equal.

There hasn't been a new DGCR par thread in a couple of years. If you have some time on your hands click here.

Tell me why I should care about more than raw score...I don't get it....and I was an avid ball golfer for 30 years before I even discovered disc golf...and felt the same....par for a hold is a subjective thing....score on a hole (or course) is not....so, in my opinion matters a lot more...

Good luck getting anyone to believe that every hole at Winthrop Gold during the USDGC is a par 3. This is only one course among hundreds that have true par 4 or par 5 holes. There are countless Blue level courses where the expected score for a Blue level player = 4. Per the PDGA definition these holes are Blue par 4.

Counting scores in relation to a 3 on every hole is a convenient way to keep score; it is not a way to determine par.

Our rules for tournament play dictate penalty based off par. If you want to argue that it doesn't matter in casual play or that the penalty shouldn't be based off par, I'd agree.

But under the current rules, it's important that it's correct.
