I don't think changing the basket is the best idea, but better greens.

Here is a discussion of things that can be done on the tour to improve the greens for the length of the tournament.

I tried to find a video of him step putting but couldn't. I did see a vid a Uli putting the way you are saying though. That seems so awkward to me, but I guess there's a way to make it work.
