Which do you prefer in a course? Holes that you are expected to bogey or holes that you are expected to bogey, particularly standard par 3 length holes? And by the latter I mean, holes with a tee shot so messed up that you basically have to nail a completely perfect line to get anywhere up the fairway or else you have to keep babying a putter up the fairway.

I definitely prefer the short holes. Reason 1 is egocentric. When I succeed, I want to believe I did BETTER than I was supposed to. It's like, "Oh, you got par. Have a cookie!" I also like short finesse holes that test my skill more than my arm strength and force me to try something crazy like a grenade.

I like a good mix of all options.

For me, it comes down to the fact that you said short holes. I like for short holes (holes that the overall distance would be a putter or mid for me) to be deuce or die. I don't like the idea of having to lay up on a 250' hole that I should be able to reach with my aviar. Overall though, I like a mix of options. |

Either option is good by me. Its the tweener Par 3's that I can't stand.

I like a variety. I go to a 36 hole course that is in 9 hole color named segments, the blue is short so I always start there to get my arm loose, after that I don't want to see it again until I have played all the others. I think courses need more anny holes too.

Variety. A couple of holes that you feel you should birdie---and if you fail, you've lost a stroke on the competition. But only a couple.
A few holes where you can birdie 25-30% of the time, and a few where you're relieved to hang on to par. The crime is holes where even a good drive usually leaves you witih a 3.....but a bad drive is easily recovered from, resulting in a 3. Ugh. |

I like both. I also like par 4's and 5's. Oh wait. Everything's a 3...
