Apparently is that easy....I was told a while back I could name any sanctioned event I wanted to run with the word "championship" in it. Hell.. I'm guessing I could name the event "World's Best", "Best Ever", "GOAT", etc, etc. meh.....

A little off the OP's lament, but...
Finding out Lloyd Weema has 3 tournament victories, with a sub-800 rating, means that Disc Golf has a long, long way to go.

Oh boy, I've got some competition today. 4 person field, 38 holes to determine a world champion.

I though you meant in Rec or something. No, you meant actually cashing in a pro division.

Well the bald eagle world championship started off with a bang at Pathway of the Gods. I came in with a -2 while Lars had me by 1 with a -3. My dad was in third with a +6 and Joe +8. Then came Bald Eagle, which I don't suggest playing this time of year, and I absolutely *require* pants. Well, all 3 of them wore shorts and we made it through the front 9, and a few more before everybody gave up. Lol. I win by default because I would have kept going!

To those who begrudge the use of the word "championship" or "champion" for a tournament winner, how do you reconcile that with other individual sports that do the same thing?

In golf three of their four majors are called championship(s) -- the US Open Championship, the US PGA Championship, and the Open Championship (aka British Open).

In tennis similarly for two of the four, the US Open Championship, and the French Open (French: Championnats Internationaux de France de Tennis).

Sports do it all the time -- the tournament winner is in some form or fashion the winner of a championship. Many more examples -- NCAA Championships (tournament winners in football, basketball, baseball, softball, ice hickey, lacrosse, etc.) NFL - tournament winner, NBA and MLB don't do single elimination tournaments, but all most playoffs are is a modified tournament championship. Nearly all do the same.
Why is the effort or position being espoused to diminish disc golf champions? Back to my original, how do you reconcile that it is being done and been done for over 100 years in American sports.

Most of those are championships of something---a conference or state or one of the biggest events in the sport. I'm not sure how many other sports have everyday, lower-tier events called "championships".

Though college basketball's December invitational tournaments come close (but at least there aren't hundreds of them).

What we do with the run-of-the-mill events named "championships" is the equivalent of 200 random baseball games in a major league season being deemed "championships", and their winners crowned "champions".

You gotta give the guy credit for being able to find sanctioned events with no legit, local pros, or even good AM1 or Masters players sign up for Open.
