(Yes, this was only because there were 3 DNF's in the 2nd round. But let's not worry about those petty details.)

Also, consider this:
In his first round, Weema put 106 throws on the scorecard.
It took McBeth two full rounds to reach that same benchmark, and Emerson Keith still hasn't gotten there!

Makes you wonder, who's really leading the tournament? Sure looks like Lloyd is out in front and others merely follow in his wake.
They all paid the same entry fee, right?
Lloyd's cost per throw is going to be hard to beat.

There absolutely should be a minimum rating to play in a Professional Major or NT Event that doesn't require qualification.

I don't criticize (openly at least) the PDGA very often, but this needs to be addressed. Call it the Eddie the Eagle rule of disc golf if you will.

As long as there are multiple pools, I don't mind. I wouldn't want an 800 rated player slowing down the course for the people actually competing to win. And until we can start filling the event with 970 and above, meh. Everyone that wanted to had a chance to sign up before hand.

I truly get that approach and I used to have the same approach about it. But that was 15 years ago when just the finals were available on DVD.

More strides need to be taken on the games highest level towards professionalism and quality and if that means that a player who would finish last place in Rec at your local 40 person C tier can't play open at the world championships, then so be it.

At least we are getting at the minimum a high rate of return on entertainment value per his entry fee.

If they are a 100 sub 850 rated players sign up its an issue. One player isn't a big deal. With separating the open field from everyone else is supply of spots is currently outweighing the demand.

It's all about the money. There's not enough high rated pros to fill the positions available. I don't know how worlds did it, but I would hope the entry was tier based on ratings.

Does there need to be so many positions open?

Somebody should put a camera on this guy so we can all see how bad he actually is. I would love to see him actually throw a disc.
