Next time I go visit my daughter at Michigan Tech I may have to make a stop.

Not sure exactly when the course will be open, but you absolutely should!

Mott Park in flint opened today. Discatcher baskets, concrete pads. Nothing very technical, but is a well thought out course. Being on an old golf course they didn't have a lot of trees to work with, but they utilized pretty well. Front 9 is mostly around 300ft shots. Back 9 is mostly over 450.

FINALLY

The new layout at Lake Township Park is COMPLETE...well...mostly. It's certainly very playable so I made a new listing for it:

https://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=9446

Gone are the days of worrying about throwing over fences, blind uphill shots over active roadways, crossing fairways and the stupid long lengths between holes have been reduced. Temporary signs are up and navigation should be easy. Currently the goal is to raise enough funding to pay for new tee pads and permanent signs and I am holding a tournament to that end (see signature).

To finally see this day come to fruition is a dream of mine many years in the making.

Mt. Zion ski hill in Ironwood MI now has a winter layout. It utilizes three holes from the original course, and has 6 new ones, some of which tee off and across ski runs, but have no baskets or signs on the ski runs, thus making the course playable until it is buried in snow. New listing will be added to the tonight or tomorrow, whenever I get time.

Heard that the local club is working with Mark Ellis and some of the Discraft crew to add 9 more holes to Kensington Black Locust, for a total of 36 holes. Saw some flags and stakes off to the side around holes 23 & 24 today.

When completed, I assume they'll incorporate them with current holes 19-27, and make them two distinct courses with 1-18 playing more Rec/Int level, with new holes and current 19-27 being more of an Advanced course.

Wow, cool. I played Black Locust for the first time in a long time. A few thoughts.
1. 19-27. I had to throw from longs. It is a really good layout, and something unique to anything else in SE Michigan. It was also eerily empty.

2. The baskets here do it a disservice IMO. Imagine powder-coated Mach Xs or Mach IIIs.. A basket upgrade would go a really long way here is all I'm saying. Those older Chainstars just blend in with the background.

3. 1-18. Played short tees. Threw my Firebird (FH) on probably 75% of the holes. I'm not so sure I would change anything, just an observation. Not many straight shots I guess.

The guy at the booth said he heard they were going to put new DC baskets. I hope that means they'' be replacing the old ones on #19 - 27.

Think I'll reach out to Jeff Kaluk on DG Scene.

Jeff runs the Sunday Dubs league at Kensington. Here's what he wrote me regarding Kensington:
Quote:
Discraft is mainly responsible for all the changes that are happening. We have walked with Discraft and given our opinions about what they have laid out and they did implement those ideas. The park has already started cutting the fairways. They do not need our help at this point in time. Myself and the club will keep everybody up-to-date on when we can help. Discraft will be replacing all the baskets with a new basket of theirs that has not yet been released. We hope that everything is completed within the next few weeks. There is a new director for the park and he is very discgolf friendly and will now allow us to hold tournaments while closing the disc off course. That is a huge bonus for us since we were not able to do that in the past. They are allowing us to tweak holes one through 18 as well. It also looks like we may be able to have two pin placements on multiple holes.
Really like that last part about the possibility of dual pin placements on a few holes.
