Step/Jump Putt rule change?

If you ban something like "moving a foot across a perpendicular line to the target before release," that takes away angles and power from people who are throwing around obstructions. It may have other consequences I haven't thought of, but that's a big one for me.

Yes because that and then other shots like needing to do the Kung Fu crane leg over the mini in tight woods/brush shots where nothing else is available for a stance is now gone too. Then these tight tight courses with lots of side brush going up to 10 feet or higher get dominated by people who are the small height Keith Emerson type of Pro. The open courses/tournaments then get dominated by your Ricky putting style where they can putt without jump putts up to at least 50 if not more. You will see more approach shots ect on the classic open park course at parts past 33 feet where the majority of pro players jump putted.

Whether or not you like /dislike ANY change of such, if it does go through it'll be a PITA for TDs* . Players don't do a great job of discerning the 10m circle let alone a 20 circle.
*we conscientious TDs will probably be silly enough to try to draw 18 circles 20m from a basket through brambles, stone walls, swamps, etc.

I would like to see the 10 meter circle pushed out to 20 meters. If the pros don't want to call each other for foot faults the rules need to be changed, having a 20 meter circle is a great start.

If any change is made, allowing step/jump putts all the way to the basket would make more sense. Despite the hand wringing about winners shooting too far under par, spectators like to see scoring. Reduce the amount scores are shot under par by making a few par 3s into par 2s and par 4s into par 3s. Simple to do and raises the psychological stress on players in the same way holes on courses like Winthrop and Ledgestone raise the pressure with OB penalty risk.

The only problem I have with step/jump putts is that way to frequently, you simply can't tell if there was or wasn't a foot fault.

I think I'd like it if the circle was basically extended from 10 to 20 m. But it would probably reduce the # of questionable foot faults.

Wouldn't matter. You would simply say that the throw be made before/at the time the foot hits the ground. If necessary, change the rule to require step putts to be completed with the forward foot landing on the 20x30cm lie behind the mark instead of in front of it.
