2 rounds to go and he's 9 down. Probably no chance for a win, even a top 5 finish is going to be a stretch. Too many players shooting much better. Keep an eye on the weather coming in, could change to a 2 round tournament. Lots of lighting in those storms moving toward them.

With his hyzer power, I was surprised he was gunning for more d at the expense of accuracy. Perhaps too much Eagle hunting.

Yes, looks like it’s going to be a very wet day.

I'm a pretty big fan of statistics, math doesn't lie, but you always have to worry about GIGO, and various controls, methodology, R2 value and so on.

I guess my main point was that outcome doesn't invalidate models. Statistically improbable doesn't mean your model was wrong when it happens.
I agree on GIGO but what I've seen, is that went folks try and mess with statistics to get the result they want, typically, the numbers on the backend indicate that. In other words, the stats catch you up. Above, Hoeschel wrote that folks would look at the same analysis and draw wildly different conclusions. I've never seen statistics used in that way (that's not the same as saying it doesn't happen). In my career, you collect data, apply an appropriate statistical tool, say Chi squared, and get an outcome with a measure of the validity of that out come. There are standards as to what level of validity means the result is acceptable.

First, if the field uses Chi squared and the guy is using a T test, I'm suspicious, the T test isn't as rigorous so I'm gonna ask the guy to be more rigorous. Second, if the guy uses a validity measure that is lower than he should, based on the standards used in the field, then I'm gonna ask why and assume he didn't get the result he wanted. The answer is the answer. How the guy uses tools and what he gives me, tells me what's going on. But the statistics didn't lie, the guy did. He used statistics to get the answer he wanted, not to do a rigorous analysis. The solution is to require academic standards. All data and methods have to be published. You only see a problem in politics and private companies, think pharmaceuticals. They don't have to show their data, and pick the tools that give them the results they want, so they can bring their product to market.

That ain't the math, it's criminal behavior on the part of the company, people. And yeah, it happens all the time.

Some folks have suggested that what Steve is doing is fudging to get the result he wants. Bull pucky, his analysis is quite simple and you can look at it and tell what he's done. Folks just don't like the answer he's giving. He has suggested some standards, and folks don't like the standard he is suggesting. Meh, I think they want a cookie.

She's been very impressive. Were it not for hole 18 yesterday, she might be running away with this already.
