Eclipse was my original "go to" roller... which doesn't help much in an ace race.

nice little nostalgia trip for a friday evening...

eclipses were one of my first distance discs and i still have a distance trophy to buttress that claim. this one gets my vote. in fact, i think there's a youtube video of a friend of mine throwing huge with them at a us open (25+ years ago @ 170m+ ?)...great flyers those eclipse.

i also used the vortex for a while as a sub for rocs. they're probably closer to a mako 3 or shark these days...but i loved that flat top...

i'm ignorant of what this one was made in, but does anyone remember the typhoon? i really liked how these flew but had a devil of a time getting any throwing stock. i remember it being like a barracuda that actually worked well and wasn't so squirrely...a great low-ceiling-thread-the-needle type of disc - very fast for its day too...Chuck McNairy gave me one of his (RIP).

i played with all those other early discraft molds too, but i thought these 3 were the best.

The Ace Race IS a marketing ploy, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun.

I think doing the Ace Race with older molds is a great idea, it has been discussed in these forums several times before. I can't say however that I'm excited for their choices. I much prefer putters or mids for Ace Race discs. The local event to me is held in October, so if I attend it will be the Wildcat. Which on a course that barely supports fairways, even with my noodle arm, should make for long day of never getting it anywhere up to speed.

Rant over. Congrats to Discraft on a good idea in principle. Hope those that attend have a great time.

If I attend, the closest Ace Race to me is in October as well. The Wildcat just doesn't look that interesting to me. The Eclipse...yeah, that looks fun. Maybe someone will have one in the marketplace.

A friend of mine noticed that discgolfcenter still has some ProD Hawks. I ordered a couple for me. Maybe I can beat one into a turnover disc. 2 years in and my Z Wasp has lost no HSS, just some LSS

If there isn't a close one with the month/disc you want, run an Ace Race yourself. Discraft makes it very easy for the TD.

At first, I was bummed that the hawk was September's disc, because my AR is in August, and I actually considered trying out a hawk about a month ago (but instead figured an Innova cobra that I already had was probably pretty similar), but now after looking at the eclipse, I'm pretty excited to get my hands on that instead. Only two weeks!

The Eclipse was my primary driver from the time it appeared on the market until it went OOP.

The Vortex was one of my favorite mids until I could no longer find replacements.

The last of my Typhoons left my bag a couple years ago, after years of service.

Those are my three favorite Discraft molds. I'd love to have more of them.

What made the eclipse special...other than being sentimental to an old favorite?
