Default Sugaree

Does anyone have the scoop on Sugaree? Why did it get closed? Now there's another extinct course in my wishlist. Looks like it would have been a really cool course. Too bad.

Edit: Sorry, I put one too many "a"s in Sugaree in the title. I don't see how to edit it.

Read the last review written by the guy (Mando) who changed the conditions to closed. Here is a little quote of his. It sounds pretty obvious it was from abuse of local people playing without consent or a guide.

Sugaree is a private course designed, built and funded entirely by the landowner without public funding or club support. There is not and will never be any signage on the course, and that's by design. All first time players are guided by the designer/landowner and the holes are verbally described. The overwhelming majority of DGers understand why we do this and find a guide to be much more helpful than signs. Unfortunately, a few folks just don't "get it".
The "it" being all of the concerns that private landowners have when strangers are roaming around on their property. If that property is also their means of making a living as it is in this case, (Christmas tree farm), well the "it" becomes "IT". If the terrain includes potentially dangerous cliffs, then "IT" becomes even larger. When "IT" becomes too large, then its no longer it, it's RIP.

I don't know how I missed that. Thanks for pointing that out. Maybe it will be resurrected someday.

It's always a shame when a few idiots ruin something good for the rest of us.

It's only closed for a while.. it will re-open eventually when Mando has the time to dedicate to it. He asked me to mark it as extinct so he won't have to field requests to play until he's ready. He was hoping to be back in action some time in May I believe.

This is happening too often. This sense of entitlement by the majority of the public needs to effin stop or gracious and cool people like this will completely stop letting you play in their sandbox and the crown jewels of disc golf will disappear off the radar.

**IF you are a douche, stay on public courses**

Thank you.

Sometimes people suck. I think private land owners should be judge and jury on their land. If he catches a trespasser he has the right to flog them.

Property rights. Learn 'em, love 'em. That means none of those screwy little light bulbs for me. Might be some strange fragrant plants for others. Whatever.

LEAVE PEOPLES' STUFF ALONE WITHOUT PERMISSION.

The problem is part of the definition of being a douche means not knowing you are a douche!

Maybe we should develop a test. Anyone want to create a facebook "Are you a douche?" quiz.

As private course owners, my brother and I got a kick out of Sugaree's updated info.

Fortunately we haven't had any problems, but---

Our couse is poorly signed and we've had to explain that it's, in part, due to the fact that we want to guide people the first time or two out (after which the signage won't matter that much). And we require reservations to we know who's out there, and when. No one's given us real grief, but a few people have questioned these policies. So we really appreciated when we saw the same things spelled out at Sugaree.
