Default Garbage Cans

I was reading some course reviews this morning, and it seemed like every one had "needs more garbage cans" in the Cons section.

Something people need to keep in mind is that public budgets have been in the toilet for the last four or five years and most budgets have been cut back dramatically. In those cuts were probably the seasonal maintenance guy that would have been emptying the garbage cans. When you have no intention of emptying a garbage can, you remove the garbage can. Otherwise they just overflow with nasty garbage.

The lack of garbage cans on our courses is just our clue that it's up to us to keep them clean. Considering we get to play them for free, that's not such a bad deal. Suck it up and pack your garbage out, folks.

Also, I notice a lot people forget the garbage cans that are there, because they are placed where the maintenance guy can get them quickly instead of way out there on hole 12 in the deep woods.

The problem is, there are alot of people that take that as a fact to throw trash wherever they like. Most of the courses here people still do that even though there is a trashcan within 30 feet.

My home course has trashcans on all holes that are near a dirt road that the trucks can get to pretty much, that's enough for me.

Not a big pro or con in my book.

My gripe is the people who list this as a con (no trash cans) when there is a set of trash cans on every other tee box. Seriously, a nice bench plus a set of trash cans on every other tee box and the course still gets dinged for "no trash cans".

Yeah! What he said. And don't come up with that "I don't want to carry trash" noise. That's the same granola bar wrapper it was when it still had granola in it.

^^pack it in pack it out, simple enough. if the cans are overflowing bring a bag, tie it to a tree or whatever and leave it for future use. theres nothing worse than trying to release from the outside world to a trash pit on the course. just plain ignorant as sh*t, go huck elsewhere!

I can appreciate trash cans on the courses. I often have to carry drinks/snakcks for my girlfriend or family, and it is a big relief to be able to throw away the water bottles, sandwich bags, apple cores, and other remnants of a past snack. To me, it is more important than benches. I figure the benches go where the course/park people want you to stop and take a break. If there are none, keep moving. But the trash cans are a big deal to me, especially if I have an empty Gatorade bottle taking up too much space in my bag. All I ask for is one or two cans out on the course. Possibly more if it's pay-to-play.

In DG as in anything else outdoors, leave the place cleaner than you find it. Everyone will benefit.
