well, that review came down quickly.

but i have a question

do you need to have a reservation to play at HBH? i was surprised to see that no phone number is listed to call ahead on the course pages.

perhaps the course info needs to be adjusted to include the phone number and instructions to call ahead. seems like some of the people (or person?) trying to post critical reviews may have benefited from calling ahead and knowing that the courses were in an unplayable condition back in May.

and for the lulz...

i feel the guy's pain, driving up there and getting disappointed. but the "review" is unnecessary and obviously not done in good faith.

The phone number is displayed prominently on the complex's website, pretty easy to find. As far as I know, there is no expectation of making reservations just to play up there, though personally when driving 6+ hours I tend to do a little research on any non-public courses to make sure they'll be open and playable....

It was a HORRIBLE spring up here! We couldn't play some local courses until mid-June when the rivers went down finally! There is no reason to dock a course for such a late summer!

ya weather in Northern WI in May was nuts!!! They had everything from Snow Storms to 80+ degrees just a few days apart. So i could understand the course being beat up. And I agree with you Mash, whenever I make even a 2 hour trip I make sure we aren't heading into problems.

A small group of us made a trip up to Highbridge in late May this year (2013). All first timers and none of us were disappointed.
But we are only about 3 hours away and had experienced the same late winter/slow spring they had up North.
When we got to the course we chatted with John a bit, who was admittedly and understandably quite busy with getting caught up on course maintenance. He said they had something like 40 inches of snow melt and 12 inches of rain in the month prior, leaving everything wet. We weren't able to use the golf carts and had to keep a good rotation of dry shoes/socks for the few days but the golf was great.
The courses needed some maintenance but at that time it would have been incredibly difficult if not impossible to mow, trim, and clean everything. The upside was we didn't have to deal with any bugs and it wasn't yet hot enough to be uncomfortable.
The courses up there are great, they just need some work, and at that time of the year with the winter we had, expectations probably shouldn't be too high. Also, John could probably use some help with course maintenance and should focus more on the existing courses, rather than trying to develop new courses.

I was up there in at the end of June and everything was in pretty good shape. Gold, Blueberry, and Granite were great and Woodland Greens was OK. It just needed mowing, which John was doing Sunday morning.
