I would recommend against either disc for a beginner.
Try the search feature, there are numerous links for beginner approved discs

Really? Imo, the xl is one of the best beginner drivers available. Granted it doesn't teach as well as a cyclone, but still.

Any reason for dissin it??

Also, OP, do you mean avenger SS ?? The avenger and the ss are on two different sides of the scale.....even still, I'd recomend the xl as its way more predictable. Even though I can put an a.ss out further, the xl is my straight to turnover driver.

I would just recommend and X XL over getting a Z for a beginner. If premium plastic is a must, could get away with ESP.

There has been so much discussion on the virtues of "beginner discs" that the search engine literally jumped out of my computer and started yelling "Leopard, you idiot!!!" and I completely forgot @ the xl.
I ain't dissing it (or you), just saying...

XL is my pick, but have them start with a mid, and putter. I started 3 friends out recently, and their farthest/most controllable discs are Classic Roc, Focus, and worn Pro D XL.

I started out with a Z XL and it acted reliably overstable for me. After losing the Z once I replaced it with an X XL and I hated it. I couldn't predict which way it would turn. I'm now able to flip my Z XL over and it's a great straight driver for me. I just added a ESP Avenger to my bag and I use it mostly for distance if I have enough room to start it on an anhyzer.

I'd recommend the Z XL.
