Whatever shape it becomes afterward is irrelevant. Either the player threw a disc, or they didn't. It's a concept anyone who's made it past kindergarten should comprehend.

A hockey puck is a disc that would fly similarly to a balled up blowfly. Just because it's a disc doesn't mean it has to have frisbee like flight characteristics.
