Funny how people will support other media companies financially on a monthly basis, but ask to pay a small one time fee for three days of live coverage and then it's no dice.

As a good capitalist I was ready to fork over my 10 dollars... until I realized it was live coverage. I don't think anyone here is willing to pay me the amount of money it would take me to watch it live.

Carry on.

If Jamie and Hannah are involved, the coverage will be good. I might pay to watch the last round if the outcome of first place is still in doubt. But that's what my decision is based on regardless of whether the coverage is free or not. For me to watch live coverage, it's gotta be a last-round photo-finish. Otherwise, post-produced is too much better and takes much less time.

I will pay for it. Small peanuts, and this is the tournament I wait for all year. Based on what Fulcrum put out last year and a reasonable expectation of improvement, it should be worth it. Hopefully its on Youtube. Or someplace else that works well and also has a live chat. If not, I hope someone with 1000 subcribers (needed to broadcast live, right?) puts up a live feed just for the chat. Anyone here on DGCR that has that?

edit: Oh and it goes for a good cause, that also.

Clearly I am biased. I have nothing to do with the production of the USDGC, but I am all in favor or PPV and have already paid. I think it is a babystep to putting everything behind a PPV wall, in the coming years at USDGC. They have a big event that people want to see, why not make people pay for that privilege.

This was posted on Reddit as a response to how will this be different than SmashBoxxTV, directly from Fulcrum.

"We'll have multiple cameras on the lead card (likely 4) and an additional 3-5 cameras at the studio. We have a dedicated replay & font (graphic) operator along with two directors and two producers. The coverage will look and feel different than last year's with a renewed focus on the lead players and the stories that matter at the 2019 USDGC. As for the player and backend we are using the world leader in livestreaming with the ability to stream from any device you own. More questions can be answered at the FAQ at the bottom of this page: https://usdgc.com/live/"

I am fairly sure their backend is Vimeo. It is what I have looked at for PPV options when doing my research.

I have some serious qualms about how they are going about the broadcast in a technology way. But, we all have different methods, and they think this is the best way. Time will tell.

I paid with Paypal, but there was a credit card option as well.

Go to usdgc.com/live and you can follow the prompts to see if you can make the purchase. I imagine if they take your money, the video will work for you.

I'm paying the $10 if I'll be home to watch for sure, but I have to agree the live chat feature is a HUGE value add. I think Fulcrum will attempt to fill the downtime more than the average DGPT/SB broadcast, but I still anticipate a lot of time where I wish I could live chat or be entertained by reading the board.

I hope they are able to pre-record some player profile type of content to splice in. I really like in depth looks at the competitors.
