I picked up 3 pairs of Brooks Cascadia 11 GTXs and one non-GTX Cascadia 11 a couple years ago and they are still going strong. Bought one of them from REI, and the rest from ebay, so all told I paid the retail price for one pair of GTX for 4 pairs of shoes.

Having extras is AMAZING! I can use them a lot more freely now as I know that I can just switch out to a different pair if anything gets too wet or muddy. Can't comment on any of the newer models and how they fit, but all of my pairs are still holding up well.

Never heard of this happening before, please post pictures when you get a chance. Might be worth sending pictures to Adidas to see if they'll do anything about it. Did you buy them directly from Adidas through eBay?

Could you send a link to the exact shoes you purchased? It sounds like you may have gotten fakes. If you buy from Adidas_official on eBay you are guaranteed to get genuine shoes every time. When they run their promotions they have the best prices.

I mean to have the shoes showing any kind of wear after only wearing them once or twice makes it sound like you got cheap Chinese fakes.

Those are sold by a company called Backcountry. If I were you I'd wear the shoes to a retailer that carries the exact same ones and compare the inside labels. If you got fakes you should be able to tell by comparing the labels and overall construction. The font on the labels will be slightly different, the fakes are never an exact match. That's what I'd do anyway.
