Default Form/Core help

Hi im working on form using my lower body to generate power does the core on you body need to be tight/tense?

The power really comes from the core, it's the piston of the engine pumping from relaxed/stretched like sling shot to tightening/bracing for impact and squaring back up.

Tried the slash feels like it may help out so if smooth and effortless is far then does a strong core which equals power allow the armspeed to increase? core exercises plus smooth form the way to increase distance?
