I'm finding that also. As a result, I' gone to heavier drivers and also really consider wind strength and direction.
Haha, I'm going to learn rollers with my retired Mambas. But the whole, "stick with putters and learn mids," thing I did last summer and now I want to learn drivers. I do feel like I have a good appreciation for you and your reset because I'm seeing that with the subtle things that are learned, rotation, weight shift, grip, snap, et al, there's a lot more to play with. My big issue is, at 64, well, you know. Sponsored Links

I agree almost 100% with all your findings. What I'm doing now is if I don't drive well off the tee my ups are going WAY past the basket. I think I'm going with an 8 disc bag for a while.

Just played another round with only 6 speeds and less. Same course as before and had my best score ever of +9 (average is +21, best previous score was +11). I'm going to stay with this "reset" for a few more months and then see if I can add 7 speeds. I'll take the 6 speeds I'm currently using as a baseline and then all my 7 speeds....throw them in a field and see if I get more distance with my 7's. If so, I'll add one or two to my bag and do that for a few months. My goal is to keep doing this until I find the max speed I can throw.

Update. So my 250 feet with a 6 speed is "internet/field" distance. Yeah, on an actual course I MIGHT get a 6 speed out to 250, but I'm finding it is closer to 200.
I'm still struggling with consistency and accuracy. Have to get my form better. Too many throws that are: that was a perfect throw, just in the wrong direction. But now that I've played different courses and measured my throws, I'm still happy with 200 feet with my 6 speeds. If they go the actual line that I want I'd be getting pars and sometimes birdie opportunities. I had planned on having lessons by now, but work and other issues have postponed that. |

Perfect throw in wrong direction probably from rotating too early/over-rotation.

My plant step is too short, which is letting my hips rotate too much when I follow through. So my body ends up facing towards the left on release. I'm working on getting my plant step at at consistent placement so that my hips end up forward facing my intended line on the follow through. Sometimes, my scoliosis causes me to lean right and 'come around' too much. Which adds to the issues - my disc goes high and curves right (hyzers) really bad. Trying to get the two issues resolved at the same time is my end goal. |
