Improbable, but not impossible. Who knows when the thing will be rolled out to the first tier of recipients (which, if it includes pro athletes I'll be disappointed AF.)

Both my elderly parents have some health issues and my sister is pregnant, so I haven't spent much time with the family this year. Because I'm not a science denying prick, I actually care about their wellbeing. I can't articulate on this forum how disgusted I am with those who act like this is no big deal.

I agree with Hampstead, my frustration is nearly indescribable.
The much maligned Governor of Michigan has re-issued a bunch more lockdowns. Since the Michigan Supreme Court has taken away here ability to enforce common sense, the mandates are coming from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, supportable by legal action against violation. This latest round includes halting in-person learning for high schools and colleges, indoor dining, theaters, stadiums, organized sports, casinos and group exercise classes. Of course, here comes the typical parade of morons. Lead by Dr. Scott Atlas, the White House’s controversial coronavirus adviser, encouraged an insurrection on Sunday against Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. Yes, the same Atlas, who is a neuroradiologist, with no formal training in treating infectious diseases. He stepped up and did what all good scientist do, in the face of death, preventable by the application of his education. [or lack of it] HE SENT OUT A TWEET. “The only way this stops is if people rise up, You get what you accept. #FreedomMatters #StepUp” The tweet is in line with Atlas’ past comments about the pandemic. The Trump adviser, who was appointed in August, had alleged that stay-at-home orders “kill people,” when in fact the orders help protect Americans from the virus, which kills people. He has promoted herd immunity ― the idea that the virus will only be manageable once more people contract it and develop antibodies ― as a solution to the pandemic. That plan has been widely debunked by the American Public Health Association, the World Health Organization and Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s widely respected top infectious disease expert. Governor Whitmer--“Well, we know that the White House likes to single us out here in Michigan, me out in particular, I’m not going to be bullied into not following reputable scientists and medical professionals. ... I listen to people who have actually studied and are well-respected worldwide on these issues, not the individual that is doing the president’s bidding on this one.” Morons believe this shiit. How and why is the world rife with this kind of stupidity? |

Honestly I don't know how anyone can be impressed with her. My state (PA) is very similarly demographically, geographically, politically, etc. Yet we have many schools and colleges open, restaurants open, etc., and are at half of Michigan's infection rate. Why? Because we have reasonable, intelligent restrictions in place that are designed to target the most dangerous activities. In spite of the drastic differences in opinion, our democratic governor has quietly worked with our republican legislature and local governments instead of constantly butting heads to show how macho he is and put himself in the spotlight. It takes more than listening to scientists, you actually have to govern. |

You kind of also have to have people that will listen to reason. You can put forth all the common sense measures you want, but if you've got a bunch of willful idiots, you won't get far. I live in a state with a number of those idiots, and a governor who actually refuses to do anything. It was VERY bad for a while, until Ducey finally caved and stoped PREVENTING localities from taking action.
