There's a player with a membership number in the 6000s in this tournament (and a join date of 1988 per his profile). Did they not award numbers chronologically back then? Or could he be someone who requested a specific number?

I saw that. Could have been a request although I thought it might be someone who got the number later and requested to have it added to an older event once these older ones got posted. If it was an 8000 number, it would have been from the International reserved block.

I played an event there on a Saturday, I think the year after Steve Wisecup won worlds. The following day I played an Brian Cumming event at Riverside Park, Hammond IN.

Maybe 1989....

Didn't Ron Russell request #9999 at an earlier date?

It's cool seeing some of those names I remember in the 1988 tournament posted earlier. Ken and Joe Gill (Joe is the Blue Gill guy). I definitely remember Ken being one of the better pro players in the state back when I first started watching and playing in tournaments. I had a chance encounter with Chuck Devries at Vicksburg Recreation Area a few years ago too. It was fascinating talking with him about the beginnings of the sport and how he played at Brewer Park when it was a post course with Frisbees in the '70s. He was still throwing pretty darned well that day at VIRA too!

I see an Ed Kowalski but no Javier there. I'm guessing Javier was playing by 1988. I've seen him play Cold Brook like he was using a remote controller on his Discs. Amazing player.

So some good news for this little C-Tier. Lunch is being sponsored by Greenbush Brewery from Sawyer, MI. Two of our avid club members work at Greenbush and if you've ever eaten there you know this is FANTASTIC news. The food is great and the beer is even better...Of course their won't be any beer at the course or event because rules and all. Also, player packs are going to be provided by Innova with a custom stamped disc. See you then!

More good news keeps rolling in:

An Axiom Pro basket is going to be donated to this event to be given away as a raffle prize, CTP, or longest putt.

Sand Ridge DGC is now a 501c3 organization so all donations are tax deductible.

Bertand was my 1st course in 1986, I played in a tourney there shortly thereafter but had no idea the PDGA even existed.

You have until 8pm tonight to register and get a players pack. Registrations AFTER tonight are not guaranteed a player pack.

I had a chance encounter on Labor Day Weekend with a guy from the greater South Bend area who played a lot of ultimate in the early '80s and mentioned that he MET Steady Ed when he was in Niles to put in Madeline Bertrand. He played DG only for a few years, so he must've stopped right around the time I started.

I brought my DG bag over and handed him a Roc. He didn't remember that one, but he did remember having Aeros, Aviars and Stingrays (plus some Lightning too). He remembered really liking Stingrays for long distance.

He was blown away with all the other more modern driver molds (and I don't carry anything above a speed 10 Disc). "I bet you really have to get low to the ground to throw those."
