This morning I realized that I posted the above post without finishing my original thought , which was going to be close to what wellsbranch says below. A 1/2 disc score basically means a course is not worth going more than 2 blocks out of your way to play.

There's information in that review (costumer service) that you wont find anywhere else. So even though i disagree with the review score, i'm glad to have read the info he/she provided.

I'm heading to Maple Hill in just under two weeks and recently discussed the water topic with my buddy, saying to be sure to bring some expendables for the trip. Totally okay with losing some discs. That being said, if I could see my disc, and all it would take would be a stick to grab it, I'd be kinda peeved too if someone came up to me and threatened to kick me out if I did. Maybe the course worker was misinterpreting the rules, because it does sound a little strange. Or, maybe, OP was wading in the water a bit, and left that part out. Anyway, the crummy review isn't a deterrent for me.

I probably won't even play disc golf anymore, the more I think about it.

There's absolutely a liability issue with players going into the water, so not allowing players to go into the water is most likely an insurance related policy. Players are allowed to try to fish their disc out from the shore though. And they do have a diver who goes in for the deep stuff every few months to rescue what can't be fished out.

As for the price hike, good for Maple Hill. It is an absolutely justifiable thing. Instead of a Saturday where they get 150 players paying $10 a piece (plus any members/season pass holders who are there), they can get 75 players paying $20 a piece. They break even on revenue, the course isn't nearly as congested, and everyone has a much better experience while they're there. Totally worth it.

Don't want to pay $20, play there during the week (for $10) or play somewhere else.

I am all in favor of awesome, private courses charging approximately the price of a deluxe large pizza to roam their lands all day and play my favorite sport.

If they have a website and a facebook page and those two aren't on the same page in regards to pricing, etc. that's on Maple Hill.

Would you give a restaurant with great food, but bad service a 1/2 star review?

I wouldn't. I hope this guy doesn't come to my hypothetical restaurant.

That's kind of what I was thinking too. From what I can tell MH is at least a 4, if the experience was misleading or th people were poor that's probably still a 3-3.5 IMO.

Heck in TripAdvisor i gave a place a 4 even though they clearly didn't want me there, but the food was too good to go lower.

100 percent correct. It would be like giving a place with crappy food but nice staff a 4.5. That doesn't happen. For me, I'd be glad that there are people at the course to tell me what not to do anyways. I'm not saying the staff was not in the wrong, they were, but that should not constitute a .5 review.
