Default Going to Coral Gabels, Florida October 6-8,'18: any suggestions?

I'm going to visit family next week on October 6-8, 2018. The Homestead Air Reserve Park looks interesting. Any suggestions on best places to play? I may only have one chance to play. I would like to meet up with a local if someone would like to play.

I'm looking forward to suggestions or options.

Indian Hammocks Park in Kendall. 2 courses on site, both 18 holes, and I believe the local club runs singles and doubles leagues on Saturdays there. There is a fundraiser going on at Indian Hammock on Sunday 10/7, sign ups at 9am. Miami Disc Golf Club is the lookup if you do the FB thing.

I like HARP, but it is still a haul, even from Coral Gables.

Oh, bring plenty of water...Florida doesn't participate in fall, lol.

I tried to play Homestead and it was in horrible shape. The grass had not been mowed in what looked like two months. The grass was above my ankles in the best spots and almost half way to my knees in what seemed like most places. It was difficult to find some discs.

I honestly don't think the Miami arera has any decent courses. The DG gets better in around Ft Lauderdale and Palm Beach ...worth my time when I'm already down there, but IMO, So Fla simply isn't a good DG destination.

As a local in Coral Gables, best for you to look northwards to Broward County.

Homestead is a very long course, regardless of whether the course is mowed or not.
Kendall Indian Hammocks has two different courses, but is a bit older.
Palmetto Bay and Amelia Earhart is a bit rough to trudge through.

However, in Broward you have a long list to choose from: Heritage (a point-to-point, park course), Markham (a mixed course of both wooded holes and more open holes), Tradewinds (a long bomber course), Quiet Waters (new, as in no tee pads or signage yet), Snyder (in process of being upgraded, wooded, par 66 from the Whites), Easterlin (short, wooded), and a couple of nine holers too. One county up is Palm Beach, and they got Okeeheelee, Commons, West Delray's in process of upkeep, PGA for a short, fun out and back course, and the upcoming Dreher Park.

I wish I'd have seen this earlier. Bummer about Homestead. The Kendall courses were usually in good shape (especially East) back in 2015-2016. I liked Palmetto Bay quite a bit but navigation was tough for visitors. Going up to the Ft Lauderdale area increases options but can be tough under certain traffic conditions.

I seriously recommend no one go to Homestead at least until there is some serious maintenance. It looked like a good course but I played 10 holes and tired of fighting the chickers and very tall grass.
