Not one, but three older discs for the Ace Races: Eclpise, Hawk, and Wildcat

Interesting. I used to throw the Hawk and Wildcat, until they became difficult to replace. I still have a couple of Z Wildcats around here somewhere.

In 1989, Eclipse was my second golf disc with a weight marked as 168.5 grams. They used decimal weights on some discs back then.

Was your first disc a Phenix? Ferrans had set the distance record with it by then. Worst first disc ever!

Yes! I bought it because the Innova sign at the sporting goods store said it was the current long distance driver. Of course, they didn't say the weight Ferrans threw was 165g. So my first disc was the heaviest available in the store at 195 grams! Needless to say I was relieved when I got the Eclipse a week or so later and could actually throw it mostly straight without severe meathookedness.

Wildcat was my second disc golf purchase (the first visit to that liquor store I picked up the XL, X2, and Xpress). This might be the first Ace Race I attend.

It does seem odd to be including the Eclipse in the Ace Race normally for mids and putters considering it has the sharpest driver nose angle for its time and ultimately became the nose sharpness maximum allowed in the PDGA Tech Standards for all discs to follow.

Quoting the Ace Race FB page: "remaking it for the first time in a premium plastic..."

Anyone else annoyed by this claim?

Both the Hawk and Wildcat were already produced in Z plastic.

I'm not going to hide my disappointment. When they said "one of our original discs", I was definitely thinking Phantom through Marauder. That includes the Eclipse, but since it hasn't been oop for all that long I didn't think it was a consideration. I seriously doubted the Phantom, but being my first disc......... but the Hawk and Wildcat? how can they even be considered original????

Another vote for Phantom here. The Eclipse is a sweet utility disc that will make a good ace race disc. I think it still is my brother's favorite disc ever. Cyclone/X-clone might have been a good choice.
