My first ever Roc was a 9x. I never threw an 8x, what’s the difference? I heard more overstable at one point in time, but that was before we had 3 million different Roc varieties in the world.

Got my EO flat top kc pro glow rocs yesterday and they are awesome. Even overstable the first few throws but I bet a smash or two into trees or rocks, will tune them quickly.

The flat top dx's are still my favorites but I have a feeling the KC pros will be superior once beaten in. A blessing to grip, I think I found my dream mid range. Sold all my roc3 and two Methods, the Roc is what I want!

The 8X was more overstable than the 9X runs that followed it. At the time, they were the most overstable Rocs that ever had been and a lot of Pro players were throwing them. So it was a really good run of Rocs that got a lot of hype at the time.

I mean they still are really good flying Rocs, but mine is a beat-to-death turnover Roc. Most people still throwing one are in the same boat; they WERE nice and overstable back in the day, but that day is long gone.

Got it, I always heard back then that the 8x's were "better" but couldn't remember why.

If there's one constant with KC Pro Rocs, it's that the current run always sucks and the previous run was better. The run before that was even better!

My favorite was when the change from 11x to 12x happened, and Dave Dunipace publicly stated that they had so much inventory of unstamped discs that there would be absolutely no difference for a while. But people were still immediately trash talking the "new" 12x's.

The 11X thing is/was the stupidest thing I recall in Rocs. The 10X were awesome, Innova was on it during the 10X era. The early 11X were like the 10X. That plastic was hard and durable and the discs were beefy. Great Rocs. Then during the 11X run the plastic got noticeably softer, the discs were noticeably domier, they were not as stable and not as durable. The 0X were also like this and the early 12X were (as you pointed out) the same discs. Suddenly there was a run on 11X because these 12X sucked, but most of the 11X's you could still get at that point were these later 11X's that were the same as the 0X and early 12X. People were paying more for 11X stamped discs that were the same as the current run discs. It was really dumb.

But the stiff 11x are great Rocs. As were the very white, very stiff, moderately domey early 12x--those are super stable, stiff, and very durable. Probably my favorite KCs.

In my experience, most everyone's favorite KC's are whatever was available when they started playing disc golf seriously.

Really I'm not thinking of any really hard KC Rocs that were bad. The bad ones were softer.

I really don't remember much about the 9X other than they were not 8X's. I remember why the later 11X's and 0X sucked, but I don't remember anything about the 9X other than they were not as overstable as the 8X.

The early 12x's are just the worst.

Horrible disc.

It is pretty nice to prefer DX Rocs. The only time I had to worry about it was when DD tried to sneak the + rim on us. Otherwise no worries about 11X/12X shenanigans.
