Default Corona Virus and Leagues

I run a league with anywhere from 20-40 players. i am starting to get a bit worried about handling the cash from everyone, I am no spring chicken. I have considered making everyone pay by paypal, but not everyone uses it, and some are charged depending on how they fund it, so not a great solution.

Any other league directors getting a bit worried? Any ideas on how to reduce risk?

Signed,

Chicken Little

Carry a bottle of hand sanitizer. Or you could use latex disposable gloves.

You could have a younger brave person assist you, handling the cash box.

Yup. I don't know how big of a concern corona and money are, but better safe than sorry.

They recommend the steps that you all have recommended. I guess I won't need this.

Require correct cash amount. People put into some container. Not sure what to do about payouts.

Wear disposable gloves when handling cash. Don't touch your face. Wash hands with soap after done handling money, or if soap not available use hand sanitizer.

Since the virus is airborne cash is not the only way to spread the disease. Just breathing in the same air that an infected person exhaled is enough. Anyone handling infected cash has the potential to be a carrier of the virus and all they have to do is be in close proximity to you for you to contract it. If you're really concerned about it, you should avoid any social gatherings.

Uhhh... nope. Its not airborne. Even common influenza does not spread like that, breath from breath, and common influenza spreads much more rapidly than this one.

Common influenza does indeed spread like this. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/disease/spread.htm

Part of the reason COVID-19 is scaring people is that it's more lethal and it spreads faster. People infected with influenza on average infect 1-2 others (some flu seasons it's higher, some lower). People infected with COVID-19 so far on average infect 2-3 others. The 10 year mortality rate in the US for influenza is about 0.1%, the global mortality rate for COVID-19 is currently at 3.4%.

3.4% of diagnosed cases. The big x-factor is, how many people are never diagnosed since they only get mild cold-like symptoms and don’t see a doctor much less get tested? The influenza stats take into account estimates of total cases which are reasonably accurate since we have so much data on the flu.

Either way, you certainly don’t want to get this but hand washing with soap and water before eating or touching your face is the best defense.
