I agree with those who say that restricting anyone below 900 from competing, or at least competing to qualify, means that it's not truly an Open event or section anymore.
The qualification standard for Tour events is now 900+

There. Anyone can attempt to qualify.

FFS 900 is still a pretty poor player relative to the field for a tour event. Im not sure why they didnt actually make the cut 950 or 960 actually.

It’s because everyone gets so brave behind their computer. If each of the folks had to speak in front of other real people, they’d have a lot less to say.

A majority of the people we meet on the course and in DG in general don't care about the behind the scenes workings. They play for fun and have no interest in the future of DG. They are blissfully happy to just play.

at the very least, a 950 player probably has the skills but lacks the consistency to compete with 1000 rated players at these events (speaking from personal experience)

Only if there wasn't a higher rated player willing to make the donation.

I'm thinking it's more like the PDGA doesn't want to lose the pro side to another (start up?) organization willing to do things better. Which in my opinion the DGPT could do...very...easily.
