I’m trying to get back into disc golf after three spinal surgeries and commensurate weight gain. Back in the day, I would make, not take, 100 putts per day. I’m currently struggling to finish 25 putts before I have to stop for awhile and let my back cool off.
I got a round in today and the putting practice I managed to do over the past week paid off, but I did not get any putting practice in today. I’m wondering how other people handle putting practice when they are playing/touring, etc. Is it every day, regardless? Sponsored Links

If you want to win you better putt
Seriously, this isn’t something you need to ask. You either put in the time or you don’t. |

Putting practice is no good if you have something distracting you, like pain would.
Practice until you're not able to concentrate properly. For me that's about 10 minutes per session.

I did not do this 100% every day my pledge to do 1 hour of putting every day with about 1 day each week off for recovery but I did do quite a bit and each time I did about 1 hour or whatever the weather allowed before it was way to windy to putt even with my windy day disc for putting and I would be blown away or it rained too hard that putting in it would not be effective. Yeah I putted in the wind and I putted in some light rain but stuff that it was not safe nope. That was this season and I found out how to do the back leg pushing off the ground better for my putts 25-35 maybe on a good day 40 feet and how to do a mini back leg kick starting at ~10-12 feet to ~18-20 feet so I am not having to work nearly as hard on my power when putting.

i definitely don't tour or even compete that often but my $0.02: you should supplement your actual practice with mental practice, ie visualization. maybe it might even help you practice longer by actually throwing 10 or so putts then spending 5 mins just visualizing (while taking a stance and holding the putter). even better, visualize yourself putting with no pain. are you addressing your healing process with diet, supplements, etc? it might be cost prohibitive but stem cell therapy does wonders for an injury like yours. |

I did this so I was not just mindlessly putting away picking up disc after disc, I had to set back up each time when putting. Last edited by Casey 1988; 11-17-2019 at 05:35 PM. |

I think partly what I’m asking is if putts made while playing a round count as putts made for putting practice. I try to stick with the putting confidence program from the video, so I’m not throwing a lot of missed putts. Take two putters. Make both, step out. Miss one, step in. Playing a round doesn’t exactly have you targeting the edge of your make range like that, but maybe it’s not useless practice.

The same is true for disc golf and any other sport. If something feels off in your form, slow way down and make sure you have the right sequence and rhythm... then work back up to a normal pace.

If I don't play for awhile, the first thing that is very evident is that my putting game is not up to snuff.
