Stag was subversive St. Louis swill beer.

Anhyzer Busch was obviously king in town, but the Griesedieck family made Falstaff, Stag and Griesedieck Brothers Beer. They stopped making Griesedieck Brothers Beer in the 50's, and after Falstaff collapsed in the 70's it was almost impossible to find in St. Louis. Stag lived on, so in the 80's when I was in college if you wanted to stick it to the man in St. Louis and stay loyal to the region you drank Stag beer. I drank a lot of Stag.

By the 90's the Schlafly brewery opened so we could drink good local beer and Stag sadly was bought out by PBR. They still make it, but it's not the same. My daughter's band was playing at the Old Rock House and my sister showed up, I guilted her into buying me a beer and she got me a Stag. Whatever, I drank it. It tasted like beer.

I prefer Dos Equis.

Also Newcastle Brown Ale.

But among the lite American beers, I’ll take Miller Lite.
