I think the statement you initially made about bodybuilding is a bit off. You can train for bodybuilding without sacrificing tendon/ligament strength and overall mobility. The thing is - a lot of people who train for bodybuilding do train in a way that sacrifices those things. If you only possess a finite amount of time and you go for rapid muscle growth you'll probably skip on the stuff that connects the joints. But if you either increase the amount of training time available to you so that you can train for flexibility/mobility OR if you can be satisfied with a slower build so that you can train for it the you can avoid sacrificing that in building.

edit: Also just a note - Eddie Hall is a strongman, not a bodybuilder. He's adding strength for specific purpose - and that purpose isn't bodybuilding.
second edit: i do see he WAS a bodybuilder... before doing strongman
