Talking Arm speed during reach back

It seems as though everytime I find something to fix to add distance, I find something else to fix. Next up, arm speed during my reach back. Although, I would consider it more of a "push back" than a "reach back." Any tips for getting some quickness with the reach back?

If you put a colon and a capital D you get that smiley. : + D =

As for the reach back I don't think that should be a worry. It's the burst of increasing acceleration that's important in the throw.

Quickness isn't really what you're interested in. Increasing your range of motion (i.e. getting your shoulders turned farther away from your target) without losing sight of your line for too long, and then accelerating the disc the entire time it's in your hand through that big range of motion is what is important.

GDS has a few good videos of Nikko's progression on youtube...

i don't think the speed is all that important. i try to keep mine as fluid as possible which for me is a nice steady motion until you get to the hit point.

See, that's what I thought, until I read somewhere that the speed of your reach back is vital in getting more speed during your pull. Confusing?!?!?!?!?

Slow reach back and a quick follow through. Kinda like ball golf.

in essence it is vital. if you rush it and lose form and balance it will affect your throw. however if you do it to slow you lose the fluid motion that leads in to your hit.

jsurmann is correct. it's all about that explosion when the disc gets to your chest. before that it's all about flulid mechanics to set you up for that explosion. i like to think as if i'm a spring and everything up to the point of the hit is me being recoiled.
