Default Worlds qualification question.

Do I qualify to play worlds MA1 next year if I have over 500 points, but I earned them all in MA2?

See post #80 in this thread.

Again, all Am points are the same and the only thing points are used for is qualification for Worlds. What would be the logic of giving people playing in MA2 points if they were no good for that? Playing MA1 and playing in higher tiered events just gives you more points for beating more people.

As an aside, this is not true for Open vs. AM points. :P Points accumulated in MA1 can not be applied toward qualifying for Open at Worlds.

True. But I doubt anyone trying to go to Am Worlds the following year would suddenly turn pro late in the year and not give themselves enough time to get enough Pro points to go to Pro Worlds.

As another aside, all Pro points are also the same, whether one plays open, or in an age and/or gender protected division.

What about players that play open and decline cash? I have 885 points from the performance flight at the USDGC which is classified as an open event.

You're probably right. But, if I earned enough points in AM last year to qualify for Am Worlds in 2013, I can still play Open throughout 2013 to try to earn enough points to go to Pro Worlds in 2014. The only caveat would be that I wouldn't be able to accept cash prior to Am Worlds in 2013.

Right? Or is there a hole in there somewhere?

Edit: I guess for 2013, I'd still need to be registered as an AM, but play Open.

You can renew your PDGA as am, play open but don't accept cash, and you're still an am for worlds. This is probably what's going to happen with me once Am Worlds comes to the Twin Cities.
