I had double hernia Laparoscopic surgery in 2012 at the age of 49 and was playing less than 2 months later.

Yes, doctor knows best. An experienced surgeon has done hundreds to thousands of hernia repairs for ball golfers so they know what's best for each patient. I had inguinal hernia repair well after 60. Was putting in a week. Non-rotation throws in 2 weeks. Seems like 8 weeks till conditioning started per doc's orders. It's not a long healing process if no complication. Well worth the effort.

I've had two inguinal hernias. Take the full time to recover. Trust me.
