It's definitely the GT that makes it feel shallow. The rim/wing on a steady is identical to a banger and feels much deeper than a judge. The steady and judge fly very similar, though, IME.

Because it's a better Wizard.

Of course, getting one's hands on them before Infinate and Marshell St. Started carrying them.....

The Judge is a nice shallow putter with excellent glide, and if you prefer a bead, its fantastic. It won Disc Of The Year when it was released for a reason, its an exceptionally versatile putter for both putting and throwing. If I used a putter with a bead, the Judge would likely be it.

Also, yes, it is widely available at most retailers that stock DD plastic, as it is their most popular putter mold.

Both of my examples feel as shallow to me. The PDGA spec actually have them as shallower (1.4 for PA3 and Steady vs 1.5 for Judge).

I live in Gateway central (100 miles from their shop) and when the Judge came out the Wizard was ubiquitous in people's bags. It turned out that there were people that loved them and weirdos that thought they were OK; the weirdos largely switched to Judges when they came out. Similar in the hand but shallower, not as overstable, not as much drop. It really was an instant hit here.

What I see over time is that the Wizard guys largely still throw Wizards. A lot of the Judge guys throw a Warden or Crown or something else like that now; I don't see as many Judge throwers as I used to and it's essentially Trilogy competing with themselves. It seems like it would have been easier to just make Judges and leave it at that.

As an aside, my daughter is one of the players who switched to the Judge. Every year we play in this event where you get a glow Wizard and she keeps one in her bag. Every time she throws the Wizard she says "why do I not throw this all the time?" Good question, kid.
