Default I currently possess a Proto for the Gateway Samurai..!

[I dont know if this is taboo , so heads up for the spoiler alert ]
So I ran by the Gateway factory today and was given a prototype for the new Samurai. It is supposedly the under-stable compliment to the recent Slayer. Since this is just a prototype, it's not done yet, but it's been under development a while so I figure its pretty close.
The Samurai is pink, and I'm comparing it to a first run Slayer

From what I can tell is that the rims are almost identical, but with a bigger bead on the Slayer. Also, the Samurai is domey-er.

No flight tests as of yet.

Why is it that when Gateway does try to make a legitimate and possibly useful disc like this and the Scout; no one talks about it? Then, when they do something like make a useless illegal disc like the Ninja, everyone goes nuts. No wonder they do that stupid stuff; it seems like its encouraged.

They just have a long way to go before they get looked at for more than just putters I guess.

I think it's because they haven't had a great main driver in the past, that they get lumped as a putter and specialty disc company. The slayer is amazing, so I hope that'll change.

They've come a long way, too. It used to be they had the Wizard, Sabre and very overstable discs and that was it. Does anyone else remember when the Spirit was supposed to be the "not super overstable" Speed Demon? Then the Illusion was supposed to be the "not super overstable" Spirit. Now they have good mid ranges and even an understable distance driver or two.

IMO they really need a workable fairway driver that's longer than the Sabre. That's what the Hybrid was supposed to be but it ended up being a slightly longer Blaze.

Apache is a little fast for a fairway, but yeah; thats not a bad disc.

The Apache has a 2.0cm wide rim which puts it with the speed 10 Innova discs like the Orc or Starfire. I'm talking about a 1.6 or 1.7cm wide rim like a Gazelle or Teebird.

It goes without saying that Gateway's biggest issue is their plastic. Every DG manufacturer has variance in their plastic, some great stuff, some not-so-great. The difference is that Gateway's "not-so-great" runs are what my buddies might call "clown shoes" -- ridiculous as ridiculous gets.

They could release the greatest mold on the planet, but until they stop putting out the Toys-R-Us plastic with a .1" flashing every other run, they're doomed to inhabit the fringe.

That said, I'm rooting for them, and the Slayer, from what I've heard, is a step in the right direction.

I just got a 169g Evo Slayer and thrown it 5-6 times and love it so far. Pretty stiff plastic. It has a nice little fade at the very end and needs a little hyzer release to flip flat but glides straight really well. Hope it's durable. So, yeah, a little more understable version of this would be awesome.

In my experience, the Evo plastic is just as durable as the Innova Star and Champ plastic, so it should last forever. It's also gripper than either, so I love it.
