Default So about that wrist...

I've been a neutral wrist advocate for a long time and yesterday while watching James Proctor pre-cock his wrist in the backswing, I decided to reconsider it.

I grabbed a disc and emulated the move:

and did some gentle swings.

What I noticed was that:

A. It feels uncomfortable.
B. The deeper you bring the disc into the power pocket, the better it feels.
C. Because of A & B, you end up delaying your extension a bit longer.

If you're struggling to delay your extension (aka get the disc deeper in the pocket), I think this is a legit way to do so.

Your wrist ends up pretty neutral by the time you extend forward, so it's really just a delay mechanism.

I just recently went from neutral to slightly cocked. I can throw farther with left effort. It took a few rounds but i finally got comfortable throwing that way. So much more control now.

I've never thought about it like this, but I do something similar with turning the wrist so the disc pointed down.
.

It's flat at the top of the reach back, but it seems to help me get the disc deeper in the pocket. Maybe it has to do with this delay you speak of.

I was just playing with cocked vs neutral wrist in the field a few days ago and I still can't say I've dialed it in to the point where I'm personally going to introduce into my game, but I did have a few throws of some of my more overstable discs that flipped up to flat a little more than I'm used to.

After coming back from a very lengthy hiatus, I've been rebuilding my form and finding a more consistent power pocket is high on my list... As OP said, I wonder if a slightly cocked wrist will help me with the feeling of the disc being more settled and comfortable in that pocket.

I'm experimenting with the Eagle, J Allen total wrist extension outward at the reach back. The idea seems to be to get an enhanced tendon bounce causing more snap. You have to time it right otherwise it feels awkward. But...I had some very good results, but it's very hard to replicate reliably so far.

So HUB how long are you pre-cocking the wrist? Stays cocked throughout the backswing? Into the transition/forward swing?

Backswing to center chest, at which point the wrist is back to straight.

I would want to actually ask him about that wrist curl/pre-cock. I was watching him in person make some long drives a month ago and I was thinking it was more an alignment thing and habit in keeping his arm/upper body relaxed through the backswing. It seems to not do that for me and my elbow tendonitis gets a bit tight when I try it.
