Shouldn't a Hub have several very good to excellent (or better) courses?
Not to bash anyone, but...

While the Grand Rapids area is blessed with a decent quantity of courses, from what I've seen, only 1 of them eeks out a rating close to 3.5, and most of them are just fair to middlin'.

My point is, if you're visiting MI for DG:
1) Hit Ludington & Flip by any means necessary.
2) Time permitting, get over to metro Detroit/Ann Arbor (and don't sleep on the burbs north east of Detroit with Addison Oaks and Stony Creek).
3) If you really have time, spend a day in the Grand Rapids area on your way between #'s 1 & 2... but don't miss the other areas because you spent time in Grand Rapids.

Even then, you're better off spending a day near Lansing for a few rounds at the two courses Burchfield (one of the very best two-course parks in the state) + Grand Woods.

Mecca indicates several high quality courses whereas hub seems to indicate just a large number of courses with no bearing on quality.

So GR's a hub, but not a mecca. I can live with that.

Not familiar with the twin cities area. Don't know how it compares to DFW in volume or quality. I just know there are many courses in DFW and the quality is good. Also not very far from Dallas you get the 2 Selah courses. Tupelo MS is a town of only 50k People and has a lot of nice courses. Mobile AL is a bit bigger but not in anyway a large city and has lots of courses as well. Maybe I will make it up north to play one day lol

Hey, that's just what makes sense to me, if you have a better way to define by all means, have at it.

I heard that the Grand Rapids scene isn't what it used to be. (I haven't played a GR course in a bit over 20 years though.)

Honestly, I don't... I kinda like your spin on it.

...

Grand Rapids/ Kalamazoo is borderline... I'd rather see St. Louis, Kansas City, and Denver mentioned before before GR-Kzoo.
Having played these areas, I have to agree.

So what's between a mecca and a hub, I wouldn't necessarily consider Peoria a Mecca but there at least 3-4 high quality courses in the area (McNaughton, Eureka, Morton(northwoods and Megiddo) and Wildlife) that I think raise it above the standard of a basic hub.
